St. Patrick's Day

I see myself becoming more jaded as the years go by, but the girls are helping me see thing through new eyes! St. Patty's day is another of these experiences. The girls were very excited about the holiday that I just put a green top on and ignore. Ben and I used to make it a point to go out and have a green beer, but even that fell by the wayside since he moved to La.
Yesterday they came home from school and immediately picked out their green outfits. If you know Caroline well at all, you know that she had much to choose from, as Green is her signature color. Justine on the other hand did not, so Caroline generously let her borrow a green top, saying, "sure, I can't let my little sister get pinched!" Then she stopped me this morning as I came out of my bedroom, to make sure I was wearing green, so I would not get pinched either.
St. Patty's day fell on one of the days that I volunteer at school, so I made some brownie bites, filled with whip cream and sprinkled with green sugar crystals, and brought them into school with me. I could tell the girls felt pretty special to have their mom do that. One of the best things about being able to be a stay at home mom!
I am sure that as the girls get older and care less about these small holidays, I will go back to just putting on a green top and considering it Celebrated, but hopefully I can look back on the excitement of today and smile.

So my wish for you today comes from an Irish blessing:
"May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you
In the palm of his hand."
